A Gippslandian Easter

April 10, 2021

This Easter weekend, our director John Calabro was on location at one of the many Melbourne Design Week events at Lakes Entrance as part of the Waterfront Series.

Some notable highlights included hearing about (and tasting) the latest indigenous brew collaboration by Sailors Grave Brewing, grabbing a sample of the beautiful seafood offerings Sodafish (who recently scored a hat at the Good Food Awards) meeting seaweed advocate and artist Lichen Kelp (Kemp), and watching the unstoppable Andrea Lane in action with her Float project and school for UnTourists at the Iceworks creative precinct there at Lakes. John even picked up a copy of the super cool new book about kelp by Mathew Bate for his kids (available through Thames & Hudson). Definitely worth checking out.

The story of Gippslandia was presented at the Slipway Salon Talks Program MC’d by Latrobe Regional Gallery’s Bec Cole.

John spoke of Gippslandia’s early development and initiation stages to suit the event’s theme of creative-entrepreneurship.

The weather was bang on and by all counts, the town is looking superb at the moment — it was a great show for Gippsland.

John launched Issue 18 of Gippslandia to a super supportive crowd at the closing celebration event held at the Iceworks venue, part of Float, with music by Biscotti.
